Travel & Remote Work

Being able to work remotely can be incredibly freeing. And, for a lot of people, that freedom equates to travel. However, with travel comes a lack in structure, and the addition of distractions. It’s easy to want to give up on your work day and go have fun.

How do you actually enjoy where you are when you need to work all day? In this post we’ll go over some ways to take control of your life, and learn how to really manage freedom in your career.

Develop a Travel Schedule

There are a lot of reasons you might be traveling. Either for work, or just for fun. But one way to get the most out of your travel experience is by creating a schedule for yourself. Some people will work all morning, take off the afternoon, and then work all night. Or, some people like to take longer breaks here and there.

Regardless, finding a schedule that fulfills your wants and needs will be fantastic for your serotonin levels.

“How Do I Feel Good About a Travel Schedule?”

It’s weird going from a conventional environment, to a unique one. Even if you’re working from home, people typically have an office where they go into work mode. It just feels different. Even if I have my day planned out, and I’m taking an intentional break, I have a hard time not feeling like I should be working. It’s like there’s this little voice in the back of my head poking me until I get back to it.

One way I remind myself it’s okay is by having a schedule, and doing my best to stick to it. The less you have to think about your work day, the easier it is to follow the flow and get things done. It takes time to develop a good schedule, but eventually you’ll find one that works well for you.

Do Good By You

A large benefit to working from home is being able to fulfill your needs. If you have a family or people you live with, it can’t always be about you. But put time into thinking about your needs, and how you can be your best. If you’re more productive at night, work at night. If you have certain needs, don’t be afraid to voice them. But don’t ignore things just because they seem abnormal.

The world is shifting to a work culture that is far more focused on health. Don’t only stand up for yourself, but remember that expressing your needs will likely help someone else feel more comfortable expressing theirs.

In Conclusion

If you’re in a situation where you work from home, and you have a flexible schedule, don’t be afraid to take advantage of that. I don’t mean “take advantage” in a negative way. But, be brave and express your needs. Do what’s right by you. Focus on developing a culture that takes care of each other. Most people are good people, and will do that anyway.
